1. Reclaimed Wood Headboard – Classic Reclaimed Wood Headboard

Reclaimed Wood Headboard

Weathered wood is a great way to add character to a ranch home. When I visited my aunt in Texas, her bedroom featured a gorgeous headboard made of old barn wood. Each plank had a unique story to tell with its knots and nail holes.

Pallets can be used to make a headboard or you can buy reclaimed wood from salvage yards. It doesn’t have to be perfect. The more character the wood has, the better. It’s okay to sand it just enough to prevent abrasions, but you want the rustic texture. Combine it with crisp, white linens to create a country-clean bedroom.

This design anchors the entire room. The wood headboard can make the room.

2. Cowhide and Leather Accents

Cowhide and Leather Accents

Leather is used in real ranch houses because it’s durable and age beautifully. I don’t mean to cover everything in cowhide, that would make it look like a costume event. Think about adding small details that will add authenticity.

The leather bench under your bed is perfect for putting on boots and laying out the clothes you will wear tomorrow. Instead of carpet, place a cowhide rugs next to your bed. Dresser drawer pulls made of leather can be added. The little details will create a genuine ranch look.

The space was completely transformed when my neighbor placed a vintage chair in a corner of her room. She uses it for reading and coffee in the morning.

3. The Blue and Brown Western Palette

The Blue and Brown Western Palette

Ranch bedrooms do not have to be brown and beige. Some of the prettiest Ranch bedrooms I’ve ever seen have a color scheme that is both traditional and fresh.

Consider the colors of a ranch: the rich earthy browns, the dusty blue skies, and the golden wheat fields. You can paint your walls a dusty turquoise or a denim blue. Furniture and bedding can be chocolate brown. Lighten up your decor with touches of ivory or cream.

This combination is especially effective in small bedrooms, as the blue helps to open up the room while the brown grounds it. This color combination is like bringing the vast ranch sky inside.

4. Bed frames made of wrought iron

Bed frames made of wrought iron

A wrought-iron bed frame in the bedroom of a ranch is timeless. These beds remind of the old homesteads where everything was made to last for generations.

Instead of overly ornate designs, look for frames with simple and sturdy designs. Iron can be painted black, oil rubbed bronze or white to give it a lighter appearance. Combine it with a chunky blanket and plaid pillows to create a bedroom which feels like it has been in your family for many years.

What is the practical side? Iron bed frames can be extremely durable. The iron bed frames are very durable. They do not squeak like some wooden frames and they support the mattress well.

5. Natural Stone Accent Wall

 Natural Stone Accent Wall

The natural stone accent wall in the bedroom of a ranch home I visited in Colorado was so beautiful that I could not stop thinking about it. The stones were stacked in different shades of gray, tan and brown.

It’s not necessary to cover your entire bedroom in stone. That would make it feel more like a cavern than a bedroom. One wall can create the perfect focal point. The texture catches light in different ways throughout the day. This makes your bedroom feel alive, connected to nature and alive.

There are stone veneer panels which look just like real stone and can be installed over drywall. Once it’s installed, nobody will be able to tell the difference.

6. Plaid and wool textiles

Plaid and wool textiles

My grandmother’s ranch room always had the most comfortable blankets when I was growing up. She had a combination of thick quilts and soft flannel sheeting, along with plaid wool throws.

Mixing patterns is the key to a successful ranch-style bedroom. Use the larger buffalo checks on your curtains or comforter. Keep smaller plaids to throw pillows and blankets. Keep everything in the same color family to avoid a matchy look.

Wool blankets can be used for more than just decoration. Wool blankets regulate the temperature naturally. They keep you warm in winter, and cool in summer. This is perfect for ranch houses where temperatures are unpredictable.

7. Exposed Wood Beam Ceiling

Exposed Wood Beam Ceiling

Exposed wood beams can transform a bedroom if it has the right ceiling height. They make the space feel larger and more spacious, like ranch houses from a century ago.

There are lighter options for faux beams that look just as real. Real wood beams can be heavy and need professional installation. You can either stain them rich brown, or leave them as they are. It all depends on the overall color scheme.

I’ve seen bedroom ceilings with just two parallel beams that create a ranch-style feel without overpowering a small space.

8. Vintage Western Wall Art

Vintage Western Wall Art

Ranch house bedrooms require art that tells an interesting story. Look for vintage posters of rodeos, black-and-white photographs of horses or landscape paintings depicting wide-open spaces.

Some of my favorite pieces were found at estate sales and antique shops. When arranged carefully, old ranch equipment such as horseshoes and branding irons can make for interesting wall displays. Simple wood or metal frames will not compete with the artwork.

Hang your wall art at eye level, not high up near the ceiling where nobody can appreciate them. Hang them at eye-level, not too high up where no one can see them.

9. Modern Ranch Bedroom

 Modern Ranch Bedroom

Ranch style does not mean you have to be stuck in the past. Some of the most interesting bedrooms I’ve ever seen combine traditional elements with clean and modern design.

Start with a platform bed made of dark wood. Keep your bedding simple and white, or in gray with a cowhide rug for texture. Instead of using traditional lamps, use modern metal wall sconces. It’s refreshing to combine rustic materials with contemporary shapes.

If you want to have a ranch-style home in your city, this is a great option. Ranch style is for those who love both tradition and comfort.

10. The Turquoise and Tan Southwestern Bedroom

The Turquoise and Tan Southwestern Bedroom

Colors are used in Southwestern ranch bedroom designs. The combination of turquoise and tan creates a room that is bright and inviting, just like the desert following a rainstorm.

Paint the walls in a warm color like adobe or tan. You can bring in turquoise with your bedding, pillows and perhaps a painted dresser. Add some woven fabrics with geometric patterns – Navajo inspired designs are perfect.

This color scheme is best suited to bedrooms that have lots of natural lighting. The turquoise catches sunlight and gives the room a glowing effect.

11. Barn Door Closet Feature

 Barn Door Closet Feature

Barn doors that slide are not just fashionable, they can be very practical for ranch-style bedrooms with limited space. Barn doors on closets save space and give your room instant character.

Barn door kits come with all the necessary hardware. You can also make your own using reclaimed wood. You can leave the wood as is, or paint it a light color for a farmhouse look, or darken it for drama. Metal hardware is available in a variety of finishes. Matte black, which is currently popular, and oil-rubbed brass are more traditional.

It’s also satisfying to hear the barn door open and close. These little details make a bedroom special.

12. The Cozy Nook Corner

The Cozy Nook Corner

In every ranch bedroom, there should be a corner to read a book or drink coffee. I’m thinking about a comfy chair, good lighting and perhaps a small table to hold your drink.

The worn leather chair will work well, as will an upholstered chair made of a durable material like canvas or Wool. These adjustable floor lamps look great and are practical. You can create your own retreat by draping a Pendleton quilt over the back of a chair.

This corner will become your favorite place in the bedroom. This is where you can relax in the morning, or before going to bed. It makes your ranch-style bedroom feel more like a living room, rather than just a sleeping space.

Bring It All Together

It’s not about following strict rules or buying everything all at once to create an authentic ranch-style bedroom. Slowly creating a space you feel comfortable in is the key.

Choose one or two items that you really like. Perhaps you’re drawn to the reclaimed wood headboard or the color scheme of blue and brown. As you collect pieces, add them over time. The best ranch bedroom looks collected and not all decorated in one weekend.

Be sure to pay attention to the materials and textures. In a ranch-style bedroom, wood, leather, stone and wool are all good choices. They feel great to touch and age beautifully. In the long term, real materials will always be superior to plastic imitations.

Be practical. Ranch houses were constructed by people who placed a high value on function and beauty. Each piece of furniture in your bedroom has a function, even if it is to make you smile.

Remember that your ranch-style bedroom should reflect you, and not what someone else thinks ranch style is. You don’t have to hang horse paintings all over your bedroom if you’ve never ridden a horse. Select elements that are authentic to you.
